This version of Three Sisters needed to be set in a very minimalistic and yet realistic setting. This show ran in repertory withAnton in Show Business for several weeks and therefore most of the furniture, rigging positions and properties doubled for both shows. My inspiration came from a previous visit to St. Petersburg and many of my own photos from the Tsar’s palace fueled properties and scenic decisions, such as the parquet floor.

This was a very unique and contemporary show to run in repertory with Three Sisters. Chiefly about the putting on a play and not the play itself (although there are some similarities), I decided to create an atmosphere of “behind the scenes” using some furniture from our realistic production of Three Sisters but also many pieces to show the world of the play with dented rehearsal folding chairs and a rolling doorframe to separate quick changing scenes. Our production was unique in using an all female cast to further emphasize one of the points made in this dramatic work about contemporary issues in theatre.
